06. Homepage

To set up a homepage go to WP adminPagesAdd New. Add a page title ( can be anything ) and set the Template to Listing. Once you set the template the Listing Section Options will show up, as in the screenshot below.

As you can see the options fall into 2 categories:

  • General Options
  • Extra Options

Under General Options you can set the style you want for the posts ( 3 available ), how many posts to show and the text/title that will show up above the listing and the advertisement banner options.

Under Extra Options you can change which posts are being shown by setting different parameters. You can either use a preset ( latest, featured, trending, hot ) or set up custom parameters. If you set it to Custom more options will show up, as in the screenshot below.

It's up to you to choose what you want to show on the homepage, if you want to show trending posts, hot posts, latest posts... whatever you prefer.

The second area on the homepage is the featured section at the very top. It's optional, you don't have to use it if you don't want to. You will see the Featured Section Options, it has pretty much the same options like the Listing Options Section except that you can not change the amount of posts shown ( that's already set, based on the style ).

Since the options are pretty much the same as for the listing we won't cover the featured options specifically here.

After you set up the options just publish the page. And now that the page is created, let's set that page to be the homepage ( front page ):

  • Go to WP adminSettingsReading
  • You will see a select dropdown called Front Page where you can choose the page you created.
  • Save changes and that's it

Below is a screenshot of that section and the select dropdown field.
